(GUANGXI, June 4) -- Ling Hankang, vice director of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's Sports Administration Bureau, spoke at a press conference on the morning of June 4 about preparations for the Torch Relay in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

The Torch Relay in Guangxi will be held between June 6 and June 8, coinciding with China's national college entrance exam and Dragon Boat Festival dates. According to Ling, the organizing committee has modified the initial plans to ensure that both the Torch Relay and the national college entrance exam proceed smoothly.

The adjusted plan involves a shortened relay route and reduction in the scale of celebration. Artistic shows have been canceled, replaced by a silent tribute to the quake victims in Sichuan Province. Donation boxes will be set up along the relay route as part of the effort to support the quake-hit region.

The Olympic Torch Relay in Guangxi will involve three cities and 624 torchbearers. The entire route covers 54.5 kilometers, with 15 kilometers in Guilin, 16.5 kilometers in Nanning, and 23 kilometers in Baise.

Olympic champion weightlifter Tang Lingsheng will be the first torchbearer, while the last torchbearer will be Mo Wenzhen, an official who has made great contributions toward local poverty alleviation.
